Part-Time Academy Entry Requirements

  • A FORM E Notice of Appointment form must be filed with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board (ILETSB) prior to application to the Academy.  This enables ILETSB to assign the recruit officer a Police Training Board Identification Number (PTBID), which is required for all academy paperwork.

  • Within 6 months from the recruit’s initial date of appointment (as listed on their Form E) they must successfully pass the Peace Officers Wellness Evaluation Report (POWER) Test to become enrolled in the next available Part-Time Academy.

  • A Medical Certificate of an examination by a physician must be completed within 60 days of the POWER Test.

  • That POWER Test must be taken & passed within 45 days of the beginning of the Academy.

  • Failure to pass the POWER test by the 6 month deadline will prevent the recruit from being enrolled in that Phase of the Academy.

  • 40-hour Mandatory Firearms Training must be successfully completed within 6 months of the date of appointment (65 ILCS 710/2).

  • An Enrollment Application provided by MTU 15 must be completed and submitted to MTU 15 prior to the stated deadline.

  • Academy Enrollment Application packets are updated for each Phase of the Academy thus might not be immediately available.  Packets will be available at least one month prior to the POWER Test.

About the POWER Test

The POWER Test was designed to measure the recruit’s physical fitness and abilities to participate in and endure the many physical rigors and challenges of the Police Academy.
